Formula Student Wheel Hub FEA and Optimisation
This individual computational engineering project applied finite element analysis and topology optimisation to a 3D wheel hub developed for the Queen Mary Formula Student 2024 car. I used h-refinement to test mesh convergence from 4 mm to 1.2 mm, compared linear and quadratic elements, investigated stress sensitivity around fillets and assessed the converged design against the aluminium yield strength. The study then explored volume fraction and mesh resolution to reduce mass while retaining a practical structural load path.
